Your pregnancy at 11 weeks
The end of the first trimester is in sight! At 11 weeks, your baby is growing rapidly and starting to develop more human features. Learn about the amazing changes happening inside you and how to manage some common pregnancy symptoms.
The end of the first trimester is in sight, Mum! You only have one more week to go—you’ve got this! Your baby is still growing at a rapid rate and is now the size of a dried date (4.1cm head to bottom). You might also start looking like you’ve eaten too many pies, but it’s all good. Let’s take a look at what’s happening on the inside.
Baby's Development
Your baby may have more human features developing this week, but they will still resemble an alien, as their head is huge and takes up half of their body size!
- Ears: Their ears are now fully formed and moving closer to their final destination, although they won’t be able to hear for a few more weeks.
- Tongue and Mouth: Their tongue is fully developed, and they will be busy practising yawning, chewing, and swallowing.
- Movement: Your baby will also be busting some moves and can now do somersaults, forward rolls, and stretches. However, it is unlikely you will be able to feel these new skills for a few more weeks.
Changes in Mum
Noticing more wind recently, and I’m not talking about the weather? The pregnancy hormone progesterone is doing an amazing job at looking after your baby, but one of the not-so-flattering side effects is that it leaves you feeling bloated and, well, a little gassy.
- Bloating and Gas: You may find that grazing throughout the day helps manage bloating better than having large meals. On the positive side, your baby may find the sound of your gurgling stomach relaxing—every cloud has a silver lining!
Tips for This Week
- Small Meals: Eating smaller, more frequent meals can help manage bloating and gas.
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and support your body’s increased blood volume.
- Rest: Ensure you get plenty of rest as your body continues to work hard to support your growing baby.
