Your pregnancy at 7 weeks
At 7 weeks, your baby is developing rapidly and now resembles a blueberry in size. Learn about your baby's amazing growth and why you might be spending more time in the bathroom. Discover the changes happening in your body during this exciting week.
Your baby continues to develop at great speed and is currently developing their final set of kidneys this week, ready to produce wee.
Baby's Development
Baby is now about 1cm from head to bottom, similar in size to a blueberry. Your little one is starting to look less like a tadpole and more like a tiny alien, with a disproportionately large head. This rapid head growth is essential to accommodate the developing brain.
The arm buds are growing, and the ends have flattened out like tiny spatulas, which will eventually form hands. It's incredible to think about all these complex developments happening in such a small space!
Changes in Mum
Your womb continues to grow, currently about the size of a lemon, making space for your growing baby. This expansion is pushing down on your bladder, resulting in more frequent trips to the loo. Add to this the fact that you are probably drinking more fluids than usual, given the greater volume of blood circulating around your body, and you’ll find yourself spending more time in the bathroom.
This increased bathroom activity can be particularly challenging if you are also dealing with morning sickness. The combination of nausea and frequent urination can be exhausting, but remember, it will get better as your pregnancy progresses.
Tips for Managing Symptoms
- Hydration: Continue to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, but try to limit fluids right before bedtime to reduce nighttime bathroom trips.
- Rest: Ensure you get plenty of rest, especially if you are feeling fatigued from the frequent bathroom trips and morning sickness.
- Healthy Snacks: Keep healthy snacks on hand to help manage nausea and maintain your energy levels.
- Comfortable Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing to accommodate your growing belly and provide some relief from any bloating or discomfort.
