Your pregnancy at 13 weeks
Congratulations, Mum! You’ve entered the second trimester. At 13 weeks, your baby is growing rapidly and testing out their new movements. Discover what to expect this week and enjoy this exciting phase of your pregnancy.
Congratulations, Mum! You’re now in your second trimester, and things will start to settle down. Hopefully, you will be feeling a lot more energised and less “errghhh.” Now is the time to enjoy your pregnancy.
Baby's Development
At 13 weeks, your baby will be testing out their newly developed limbs and will be making plenty of jerky arm and leg movements, although you are still unlikely to feel it at this stage. If you have your scan this week, see if your baby is sucking their thumb—just so adorable!
- Size: Your baby continues to grow and is now about the size of a nectarine, approximately 7.4 cm from head to bottom.
- Genitals: Their ovaries or testes are now fully formed inside their body, and genitals are forming outside.
- Movement: Your baby is very active, but these movements are too small for you to feel just yet.
Changes in Mum
Have you got a cute little baby bump yet? As your baby continues to grow, you will too, as your womb grows upwards and outwards.
- Bladder Relief: Some more good news is that your womb will also move away from your bladder, so your toilet trips should reduce.
- Increased Libido: You may also be feeling a little friskier of late. This isn’t your imagination but a result of more blood pumping around your pelvic area. Apparently, it can make you feel thirsty or horny—your choice, a glass of water or more sex!
Tips for This Week
- Enjoy Your Energy: With increased energy levels, take the time to enjoy your pregnancy and perhaps start planning for your baby’s arrival.
- Stay Active: Light exercise, such as walking or prenatal yoga, can help you stay fit and prepare your body for the demands of pregnancy and childbirth.
- Balanced Diet: Continue to eat a balanced diet to nourish both you and your baby.
