Your pregnancy at 30 weeks
You’re at the three-quarters mark, and while you may feel huge, there’s still a bit more to go before baby arrives. Learn about your baby’s development, how to manage sleep disturbances, and why it’s helpful to add a week to your due date expectation.
You’re at the three-quarters mark, and although you may feel huge, you still have some way to go before baby appears. Although hard, try not to focus too much on your baby’s due date as amazingly only 4% of babies are actually born on their predicted birthday. Try adding at least a week in your mind as this may help as you get closer, in case baby is too comfortable to make an appearance.
Baby's Development
Your baby is now approximately 39.9 cm long, about the width of a travel change mat, and has gained 0.3 kg this week, which you may be feeling.
- Eyesight: As you know, your baby’s eyes opened a few weeks ago, but now they can focus their vision. I wonder what they can see? Baby’s sight will continue to develop both inside and outside the womb. When baby is born, their vision will be about 20-25 cm, which is the distance most people automatically position themselves when they talk to or feed a baby.
Changes in Mum
How are you sleeping, Mum? If you haven’t experienced leg cramps before, you may well have them now at night, but as your bump is bigger, it may be harder to get up quickly when you feel that twinge.
- Sleep Tips: Try positioning yourself on your side, curled up with a pillow or body pillow between your legs and a cushion under your bump—basically wedged into bed. You’ll find you just get comfortable, and then you need a wee.
Tips for This Week
- Sleep Comfort: Use pillows to support your bump and legs, helping you find a comfortable sleeping position.
- Manage Expectations: Mentally add a week to your due date to help manage expectations as you get closer to your baby's arrival.
- Stay Active: Gentle exercises and stretches can help manage leg cramps and improve sleep quality.
