Your pregnancy at 15 weeks
At 15 weeks, your baby can start to hear your voice and sense bright light. Learn about your baby’s incredible development and how to manage common pregnancy symptoms like ligament pain and itchy skin during this exciting stage.
You know how you’ve been talking and singing to your baby? Well, from this week, there is a chance they can actually hear you! Initially, it may be more muffled, and if you’ve been suffering from a little indigestion, these are most likely what they will hear first. But soon, they will be able to hear your sweet tones, which they will recognise when they are born.
Baby's Development
Your baby is busy this week. Not only can they hear, but they can also start to recognise bright light, even though their eyes are still firmly shut.
- Hair Growth: Their eyelashes and eyebrows will start to grow about now. Additionally, baby will be growing soft, fine hair all over their body called ‘lanugo’. Don’t worry, this is usually gone by the time they are born or very soon after.
- Size and Weight: Your baby is continuing to grow and develop rapidly, making significant strides every week.
Changes in Mum
Are you experiencing some sharp jabbing pains in the side of your bump? No, this isn’t your baby, but rather your ligaments stretching to make room for your growing wombmate. Putting your feet up and resting should help ease the pain.
- Itchy Skin: You may also be experiencing itchy skin, which is usually caused by—yes, you guessed it—hormones. Try using a fragrance-free moisturiser and drink plenty of water. If it becomes unbearable, do let your midwife or GP know.
- Vaginal Discharge: Keep an eye on your knickers as you are probably still experiencing more discharge than pre-pregnancy. If it smells or is coloured, check with your midwife, as you may have an infection. For more information about common infections during pregnancy, check out this NHS article.
Tips for This Week
- Rest and Relax: Take breaks and put your feet up to manage ligament pain.
- Moisturise: Use fragrance-free moisturisers to soothe itchy skin and keep hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
- Monitor Symptoms: Stay vigilant about any changes in vaginal discharge and consult your midwife if you notice anything unusual.
