Your pregnancy at 8 weeks
Congratulations, Mum! You’ve reached the 2-month mark with just 7 more to go. At 8 weeks, your baby is now a fetus, growing rapidly inside. Learn about the amazing developments happening and what to expect in the coming weeks.
Hey Mum, you’ve made it to the 2-month stage, which means only 7 more to go! Over the past few weeks, your body has been going through some massive changes, but most people won’t know as it’s all happening inside. You probably won’t be able to see your cute little baby bump just yet, but exciting things are happening.
Baby's Development
At 8 weeks, your baby is now officially a fetus and is about the size of a raspberry, measuring approximately 1.6cm from head to bottom. Baby’s growth at this stage is quick, having increased by over 50% in the last week.
- Arms and Legs: Your baby's arms are getting longer as the upper part of the body grows faster than the lower part. Although their little legs are also growing, it will be a little while until their knees, thighs, and toes develop.
- Placenta and Nutrients: Your placenta continues to develop, but for now, your baby is still getting all its nutrients from the yolk sac inside the amniotic sac. Over the next few weeks, the placenta will be ready to take over the role of nourishing your baby.
Changes in Mum
How are you feeling? If you are suffering from morning sickness, you’re not alone— a massive 80% of expectant mums do. The good news is that these symptoms will hopefully subside during the next month or so.
- Booking Appointment: You should have your booking appointment in the diary by now. If not, give your doctor a quick call. This appointment is likely the first time you will meet your midwife and will typically occur around the 10-week stage. To find out more about what to expect at your booking appointment, check here.
