Your pregnancy at 34 weeks
At 34 weeks, you should have another appointment with your midwife to discuss your labour and birth. Learn about your baby’s growth and development, tips for managing colostrum leakage, and the importance of finalising your birthing plan.
This week you should have another appointment with your midwife, and during this appointment, you will be given information about your labour and birth. If you have any questions, this is a great time to ask.
Baby's Development
Have you noticed any limbs pushing out from your bump when your baby moves? As your baby continues to grow, the room inside will get less and less, so they are likely to be head down with their knees up towards their chest in the traditional foetal position.
- Size: Baby is now around 45 cm from head to heel, the size of one of those cute little baby vests they will be wearing very soon!
- Gender Development: If you are having a boy, his testicles will be descending from his abdomen into his scrotum. When born, his genitals may seem a little large. This is no indication of how well endowed he will be later in life, but more likely due to the extra fluid or hormones and will go down after a few days.
Changes in Mum
Your breasts will probably be feeling huge now and may also be leaking a little colostrum as they prepare to feed your baby.
- Feeding Plans: Now is a good time to start thinking about how you plan to feed your baby. You will be given more information about breastfeeding at your next midwife appointment.
- Birthing Plan: If you haven’t already written your birthing plan, this is a great time to do so, armed with all the information from your midwife. If you have already written it, you may want to make a few tweaks based on your latest information and preferences.
